The Island of Fire and Extremes
Hawaiʻi is the youngest island in the chain, and it is still being made.
That is not a figure of speech. There is a volcano on this island actively adding land to it, and you can go and stand near enough to feel the heat coming off it. Five nights on the Big Island, from a house above the Puna coastline with the ocean laid out in front of it, and days that run from the black sand beaches to the summit of a mountain nearly fourteen thousand feet up.
We’ll spend a day inside Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park — steam vents, lava fields, the living edge of the thing. We’ll go up Mauna Kea to watch the sun drop below an ocean of cloud and then watch the stars come out in numbers that do not look real. We’ll spend a day in the green heart of the island where the waterfalls are and the air smells like rain. There will be coffee tours, jeep days, beach days, and yoga every morning.
And Mav is bringing us home. He’s a Hawaii native, he has spent his life in the water and in the air around these islands, and he trained as a chef. So he is going to show us his islands and then cook for us. There is something pretty good about that.

Everything on this retreat was chosen on purpose. These three are the heart of it.
A full day inside Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park — steam vents, lava fields, and the living edge of an island that is still being made. There is no analogue for standing here. Most people see this park from a car window in ninety minutes. We give it a day.
Up above the cloud layer on one of the clearest night skies on Earth. You watch the sun go down over an ocean of cloud, and then you watch the stars come out in numbers that do not seem real. Bring the warmest thing you own — we are serious about this and we will remind you.
A full day out in the green heart of the island — the Big Island’s lush windward side, where the waterfalls are and the air smells like rain. One of those days that ends with everyone quiet in the car on the way back.
Kona coffee tours and tastings, jeep touring across the island, iconic beach days, sunrise and sunset excursions, and yoga every morning at the house. See the Inclusions tab for the full list.
*Airport transfers run at set times on arrival and departure day — Kona Village 2:00 PM, Kona Airport 2:30 PM and Hilo Airport 4:00 PM on the way in; Hilo Airport 10:00 AM and Kona Airport 11:30 AM on the way out. Please book flights around these.
A $750 deposit secures your spot. A second payment of $1,320 is due October 28, 2026, and your remaining balance is due December 28, 2026. After submitting your deposit, you’ll receive a confirmation email with options to select your preferred payment plan.
Our home for the week sits above the Puna coastline, minutes from a black sand beach — cedar buildings under coconut palms, lawn running out toward the water, and the ocean filling the whole horizon behind it. It’s ours alone for the five nights we’re there. Eight guests, no strangers in the next room, no lobby, no front desk.
There’s space to gather and space to disappear. Morning yoga happens here. So does the last drink of the night and the conversation that runs longer than anyone planned.
The whole property, just our group of eight. No sharing it with other guests.
Open water off the lanai and a black sand beach minutes away.
Every shared room has its own bathroom — which is rarer than it should be.
per person
Two beds, ensuite bathroom. Matched with a roommate, or bring your own. Three shared rooms in the house.
per person
One bed, your own room, no roommate. The bathroom is shared between the two private rooms. Two private rooms in the house.
One of our shared rooms is a single-bed room for two people travelling together, at the shared rate — so a couple pays $3,390 each rather than a private supplement. Choose 2 guests in the booking form and it will appear as an option.
