The woolly mammoths of the ocean
You are officially coming to Tela with us, and we could not be more excited. Six nights, twelve of us, and the largest wild elkhorn forest left in the Caribbean. Four nights in a treehouse above the ocean, two in the mangroves of Jeanette Kawas National Park, and a week of diving with the two people who know this water best. Between now and April you’ll get everything you need by email — but it all lives right here too. Bookmark this page.
Four things to knock out. The first two are required by the Honduran government and must be completed before you fly — they are not optional and we cannot do them for you. The other two help us prepare for your arrival.
Honduran immigration requires every traveller to complete an online pre-check before departure. Do it before you leave for the airport — without it you can be delayed at check-in or refused boarding. It takes a few minutes.
Complete Immigration Pre-Check →Honduran customs requires a sworn traveller declaration (DJRV) through the PECH platform, also before departure. Same rule as the immigration pre-check: complete it at home, not at the airport.
Complete Customs Declaration →Dietary needs, emergency contacts, flight details, dive experience and certification level — so we can coordinate your airport pickup and plan the diving properly.
Complete Guest Form →Required for every guest before we travel. It covers our water activities: scuba diving, the night dive, snorkelling, boat travel, the coral translocation and the Punta Sal excursion.
Sign Waiver →Fly into San Pedro Sula (SAP). It’s the main international gateway for northern Honduras and about two hours from Tela.
Airport and retreat transportation is included both ways. Send us your flight details on the guest form and we’ll be there.
We collect you at 2:30 PM at San Pedro Sula airport on arrival day, and drop back at the airport at 11:30 AM on departure day.
Do not book a departing flight before 1:00 PM. The group transfer arrives at 11:30 AM and anything earlier does not leave enough time. If your flight is before 1:00 PM you will need a private transfer, at your own cost of $250. Email us if you have a conflicting flight and we’ll help you sort out a solution!
Got a flight that conflicts? Email us and we’ll help you sort out a solution!
Both must be completed online before you fly, not at the airport:
1. Immigration pre-check — prechequeo.inm.gob.hn
2. Customs declaration (DJRV) — PECH platform
Both are quick. Neither is optional.
You do not need a certification. Non-divers can do a discovery dive, and the snorkelling here is genuinely excellent because the elkhorn grows near the surface.
Want to get certified? Tela Marine can do it on site for $500 plus accommodation and food for the extra days — tell us early so we can build it into your dates.
If you have any medical condition that affects diving — asthma, heart conditions, recent surgery, pregnancy — tell us on the guest form. Some conditions need a doctor’s sign-off before you can dive.
Also: do not fly within 18 hours of your last dive. We plan the final day around this, but book your flight home accordingly.
Arrive Saturday, April 24 and depart Friday, April 30, 2027. Six nights.
Coming a long way? Consider flying in a day early. The first day is more fun when you’ve slept.
Late April on the Caribbean coast of Honduras: hot, humid, and warm in the water. You will live in swimwear and quick-dry clothes.
The full packing guide is linked below.
The currency is the Honduran lempira, though US dollars are widely accepted. Bring cash for personal purchases and gratuities for local guides and dive staff.
Tips for your hosts, guides and dive team are not included and always appreciated.

Join PhotoCircle →Strongly recommended, and worth checking it covers scuba diving specifically. IMGlobal is built for adventurous travel.

You’re already flying to Honduras — and there is a lot worth seeing. Two easy add-ons, either side of the retreat. Remember the 18-hour no-fly rule after your last dive when you plan.
More diving, and some of the best value in the Caribbean.
Cloud forest, waterfalls and birds, an hour down the coast.
A few things about how we run an AdZENture. None of it is meant to be heavy — it just makes for a better week when everyone knows where they stand. Tap any card to open it.
If conditions allow, this trip includes a translocation of elkhorn coral — part of a larger experiment working to understand how these rare corals respond to environmental conditions, and to help establish a new elkhorn reef as habitat for the 25% of all marine life that depends on coral reefs.
Elkhorn corals live near the sea surface, where their fronds can be broken by waves or by illegal anchor drops. You’ll be instructed how to handle these elkhorn “fragments of opportunity”, giving you a rare chance to hold coral and connect directly with these amazing animals while contributing to a scientific study.
It is weather and conditions dependent. It is real science, not a scheduled attraction, and it only goes ahead when it is safe and right for the corals. We will always tell you honestly on the day.
This AdZENture is carefully designed and planned specifically for your group. Our hosts are experts in the destination and have personally curated this retreat to include the very best experiences we could find and create. We ask that you be respectful to our local partners and follow their instructions, especially during our adventures.
Please be mindful of the other guests in our small groups. Be respectful of every person, their opinions and their choices on the retreat.
Unruly, disrespectful, or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated on this AdZENture, our hosts reserve the right to stop your participation in this retreat and no refund will be provided if this occurs. Additional costs may be incurred for transportation and/or alternative accommodation and AdZENtures will not be responsible for any additional expenses.
By attending this retreat you agree to this.
Please note that limited alcohol is provided on this AdZENture. If you would like to purchase additional alcohol for the accommodations, feel free to do so. If you have any concerns regarding this aspect of your retreat, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your hosts and we will respond with the utmost discretion.
If you choose to consume alcohol on this trip, please do responsibly and note that others might not want to partake. Please be respectful of the others in the group and their personal choices.
One thing specific to this retreat: we are diving. Please don’t drink the night before a dive to the point where it affects you in the water — your dive team will call it, and they are right to.
Please note that this is a no smoking retreat. If you wish to smoke, you will not be permitted to do so on our retreat premises.
Throughout this AdZENture, we’re excited to immerse you in the vibrant flavors of our local cuisine, thoughtfully curated based on seasonal and traditional foods.
Please note that we strive to accommodate various dietary needs and restrictions by offering a variety of options for each meal. If you have specific dietary requirements, we’ll do our best to make adjustments within the framework of our offerings. Our goal is to introduce you to the rich tapestry of local flavors, and we believe that includes a diverse range of culinary experiences.
If guests require custom meals beyond our standard offerings or last minute changes during the retreat, there may be an additional fee, similar to an upcharge at a restaurant. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to providing you with a delicious and culturally enriching experience.
We strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance. Some people may be covered through their standard health care, but travel insurance can be helpful for other areas of the trip such as Trip Protection. Travel insurance helps protect against unforeseen emergencies which can occur at any time. It also helps protect you against other circumstances like travel delay, lost or stolen baggage and personal items, missed connections and so much more.
One of the recommended travel insurance providers is IMGlobal, because it is designed for adventurous travelers with cover for overseas medical, evacuation, baggage and a range of adventure sports and activities. It’s what we use ourselves — we don’t receive a commission, we just think it’s good.
On this retreat especially: check that your policy covers recreational scuba diving. Not all of them do as standard.
Conscious Travel. Meaningful Connections. Unforgettable Experiences.
