Frequently Asked Questions About Your Scottish Highland Adventure

What makes May perfect for exploring the Scottish Highlands?

May brings us longer days (more time for adventure!), wildflowers painting the glens in purple and gold, and that perfect mix of moody skies and surprising sunshine that makes Scotland feel magical. Plus, we avoid the summer crowds and the pesky bugs!

What should I pack for the Scottish Highlands in May?

Scotland’s weather is famously changeable (that’s part of its charm!). Pack layers including a good raincoat, comfortable waterproof walking boots, and a warm layer for evenings. We’ll send you our detailed packing guide, but the key is being ready for four seasons in one day!

How challenging are the walks in the Scottish Highlands?

Our walks range from gentle valley strolls to heart-pumping mountain hikes. We have two guides that lead two different paces. One is geared more towards those looking for a workout and the other is those who are more interested in photography, observing the surrounding nature and taking it easy. Most days involve 2-4 hours of walking on varied terrain.

All hikes and experiences are 100% optional with other activities offered so you don’t feel like you’re missing out on anything!

How do I get to the Scottish Highlands from major cities?

Fly into Edinburgh or Glasgow (we’ll help you choose based on your route). We handle everything from there! We’ll meet you at a central point and whisk you away to the Highlands. Many guests choose to spend extra time exploring Edinburgh before or after – we’re happy to share our local tips!

For ARRIVAL: We will have one shuttle on May 4th for pickup

  • Shuttle departs from the Edinburgh Airport @ 2:00pm local time
  • Shuttle departs from the Glasgow International Airport @ 3:15pm local time

For DEPARTURE: We will have one shuttle on May 11th for drop off

  • Shuttle will drop off guests at the Glasgow International Airport @12:00pm local time
  • Shuttle will drop off at guests at the Edinburgh Airport @ 1:15pm local time

If your travel schedule does not align with these times, we will be able to book you a private shuttle to/from the airport for an additional cost (estimated $150USD one way).

Can you accommodate dietary requirements?

Your Scottish Highlands AdZENture includes all meals, those prepared at our highlands chalet as well as meals out at restaurants. You will be asked to provide any special dietary restrictions before the start of your retreat so we are able to accommodate your requests.

We ARE able to accommodate any dietary restrictions on this AdZENture as long as it’s noted on the Guest Form.

Please note: if you choose to select a specific diet, special meals will be prepared just for you and that is what you will be served. Changes may not be possible on short notice.

Example: “I don’t eat seafood” means that our chef will design a special, non-seafood dish just for you when the rest of the guests will receive a seafood meal. You will not be able to ‘try’ the seafood dish as these meals are made to order specifically for each guest. Thank you for your understanding.

Is solo travel welcomed?

Some of our most magical moments happen when solo travelers connect! Many of our guests come alone and leave with new friends. We structure our days to balance group time with personal space, and our small group size means no one ever feels left out.

Itinerary

As a company policy, we do not share an itinerary with our guests.  This is done with intention and for a reason. Our guests are often planning every aspect of their lives and others’…during our AdZENtures, we give guests the opportunity to sit back, relax and enjoy the present moment.

Every night at dinner, we will disclose the following day’s activities, what to pack, what to wear and when we will depart. This allows guests to be prepared but also immerse themselves in the present.

If this sounds unbearable, this might not be the best trip for you. Note: most of our AdZENturers who had a tough time with this in the beginning, end up loving the element of surprise in the end!

What kind of accommodation can I expect?

For our first 4 nights, we will be whisking you away to our very own castle set above Loch Etive, near the coastal town of Oban. For the latter part of our AdZENture, we will head into the heart of the Highlands to our charming local estate nestled in along the Lochs with nothing around but nature. Each place we stay has been chosen for its character, comfort, and the people who run it. Expect comfortable beds, hot showers, and the kind of authentic Highland hospitality you can’t find in big hotels. We have two accommodation options for this AdZENture:

  • Private room with private bathroom
  • Shared room and shared bathroom with 1 other person

*If you are traveling alone, we will pair your with another solo guest

*Solo travelers will be paired with a member of the same sex
